Analysis based on our friendly neighbourhood giant, Amazon-Kindle, shews that the reading customer is more likely to buy EBooks that are more expensive when they have a larger weight of words, than something that is cheap but rather short: evidently this is because the potential reader believes – and rightly so – that the writer has worked harder. Here, on Anne Hauden’s Website for Historical Novels, there is a conscious attempt to keep prices comparatively low, irrespective of how much ‘work’ has gone into a novel, partly because the author enjoyed the process of creation and research so much that it was not really work at all no matter how long it took or what effort it involved.
